Music...

There is no doubt that this is a force that impacts people everywhere on Planet Earth and probably since the dawn of the age of man. One extensive article published by Frontiers in Psychology, and featuring researchers from various countries, posited the notion that musical activities have been a part of every known culture and extends back to more than 250,000 years.

That's a very long time and music remains a most valuable part of all modern human cultures. So much so that numerous artists have been moved to create songs about music itself. You probably already know a few. Nonetheless, we decided to put together a short list of such songs that you might consider adding to your playlist if you don't already play them. The list includes well-known (and not so popular) hits from around the world and which carry positive messages. Let's go!

1. Madonna - Music

This song pretty much embodies what music is all about - bringing people together, regardless of their origins.

2. Playing For Change - Listen To The Music

There are some songs that get pretty close to capturing all the merits of music, including via the instrumentation, and this one does just that.

3. Gloria Estefan - Turn The Beat Around

If there was ever a song that made you just want to dance, this is it.

4. Rihanna - Please Don't Stop The Music

Among Rihanna's most well-known songs, this upbeat track plays upon the hypnotic effect of music and why you might want to keep it playing.

5. Bob Marley - Redemption Song

An ode to the fight against all types of injustices, this reggae hit perfectly captures the power of music to give voice to people through songs.

6. Eros Ramazzotti - Se Bastasse Una Canzone

We won't pretend to know all of what is being said in this song since it's an Italian hit. However, an English translation of the title ("If a Song Were Enough") and the lyrics reveal that it's talking about the power of music.

7. Ronan Keating - This Is Your Song

While a bit on the sad side, this song from the Irish powerhouse depicts how a song can provide the words many people would like to say to their loved ones who are no longer around.

8. Jan Smit - Mijn Gitaar

This melodic number hails from The Netherlands. That said, we obviously don't know the English translation for all the lyrics to this one either. But being such a catchy song has made it quite popular, especially since the theme speaks about the joys a guitar can bring.

9. Sara Bareilles - Love Song

When you just want a simple and fun song to rock out to but still say what's on your mind, this track is definitely a good choice.

10. John Farnham - You're the Voice

A smash hit from Down Under, this song speaks to the importance of being heard. And over the years, music has proven to be one of the most effective ways to be heard.

11. The Kiki Dee Band - I've Got The Music In Me

A feel good song, as well as an oldie but goodie, this 1970s hit is the epitomy of positive thinking.

12. Abba - Thank You For The Music

In all honesty, what would life be? Who can live without music? Really pertinent questions being asked in this hit from Sweden, highlighting the importance of music and why we should be grateful for it.
